We visited a Bulgarian hebrew charter school. Only 40% of the students are Jewish. I was put in the 12th grade english class, its funny (peculiar not ha ha funny) the things a bunch of 18 year olds from across the world can bond over..
For dinner we went to the JCC of Sofia and the jewish community put on a show for us about their culture.

Traditional Bulgarian Jewish food.(matza meat lasagna, burekas, leak patties, beats and an egg)

November 13th (PLOVDIV, BULGARIA)
A day in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
We visited the shul of Sofia, it remind me of the shul where Ezra has his bmitz,

A memorial to to thank those who saved the Bulgarian Jews during the Holocaust.

We visited an elderly home and spoke about their Holocaust experiences. (The Jews of Plovdiv were sentenced to death, but before they were forced on the trains, a local priest laid on the train tracks and refused to let the Nazis take the Jews.)
The woman I spoke to said her father tried to protect her. Instead of telling her where they where headed, he told her they were taking the train to go on a vacation. He didn't want her to be scared.

Bulgarian country side part one.

We went into the mountains to visit the church where the priest that saved the Jews is buried.
